Band: The Wombats

A little late on this post!

3 albums to share from The Wombats today. Warning: There will be many songs from their 2008 album! Should have made 2 posts, but then again I did miss last week's... :3

So, the first song that hooked me to The Wombats was "Backfire at the Disco" featured on the album "A Guide to Love, Loss and Desperation" (2008). Reasons being the "OOOO!'s" and repetition of out of the ordinary and perplexing lyrics in the chorus. Statements with possible meaning to some of the band's members instead of just storytelling. This song being:

"AT THE DISCO!"

Fortunately, these elements are seen throughout most of The Wombats' songs.

I like fast-paced songs. So I am a bit biased. "Kill the Director" has that intro that just automatically makes you jump up and down or shake your head left and right to the beat.

"THIS IS NO BRIDGET JONES!"

In "School Uniforms," there's this section around 1:04 where the guitars make some distortion-like riff. Organized mess that one can admire.

"OH, SWEET LOUISE!"

"Dr. Suzanne Mattox PhD" has the "OOOO!'s" that I love to hear so much from this band. And of course, that quirky line.

"HELP ME, SUZANNE! HELP - HELP ME, SUZANNE!"

The Wombats's singer also sings with a swinging slur. His words don't sound slurred! haha In fact they're very clear. His voice level slurs into different pitches. Almost like pining! Here is "Patricia The Stripper."

"OO! OO! OO! OOOOOO! OO! OO! OO! OOO!"

I would highly recommend you guys to buy this album. I did like a great deal of the songs on it, which is why I shared so many of them! (Sorry!) This is the last song, "My First Wedding," I'll share from their 2008 album... for now. Check out "Metro Song." ("I think I missed my Metro!" <3)

"SHE'S NOT THAT BEAUTIFUL! SHE'S NOT THAT BEAUTIFUUUUL"

Fast forward to The Wombats 2011 in their album "Our Perfect Disease." Electronic elements are evident. I don't have a problem with it, actually. I think it definitely adds a fresh trait to The Wombats.

"Our Perfect Disease" still has the "OOOO!s" we love so much. That pining in the singer's voice is not as obvious, though, I think!

So, in "Guillotine," one of the main lines, "I AM NOT IN LOVE WITH YOU," really hurts. Makes this song kind of admirable to have that effect. You don't often hear those words said to you. (Well, at least I don't! XD) So hearing these words makes me feel surprisingly sad as I imagine them slipping out of the mouths of those I love.

"Techno Fun" (2011). The title of the album basically sums up the changes the band made with this album. Definitely some techno features in this album. My favorite song on this album is "Trampolining" because of the expressed metaphor and, of course, the tempo.

Fav line: "I'M TRAMPOLINIIIING! I'M TRAMPOLINING OVER YOU..."

I'll leave you today with a summer related song,"Shock Goodbyes and P45's." ^_^

Band: Delta Spirit

Maybe I've been obsessed with the awesome-ness that is California. Or maybe it's just a coincidence that another great song is titled California.

The title is the same but the song is completely different performed by Delta Spirit in their 2012 album "Delta Spirit."

"California," "Idaho," "Otherside," "Tellin' the Mind," and "Money Saves" are 5 of my favorite songs on this album.

Kinda funny that two of their songs are states. hahaha

"Tellin' The Mind" feels out of place, possibly because of the trilling - IDK. (sarcasm) But it does appeal to my fast-and-loud taste. I definitely love the energy coming from it.

"Money Saves" welcomes a brave mood. If you're feeling down, listen and shout along to this melody.

Their 2008 album, "Ode to Sunshine," focuses more on acoustic flavor, but that doesn't mean that their newer sound lies far away.

Their first song, "Tomorrow Goes Away," probably isn't a good first impression. Not to say that the song itself is bad! It's actually my favorite song from this album.

Another favorite from "Ode to Sunshine" is the song "People C'mon." It just has that swaying rhythm that I love so much. Almost jazzy if it weren't for the instrumentation.

And their 2010 album "History from Below" sounds a lot more folky and "delta-ish." So naturally, I didn't really like most of their songs. But! I did enjoy listening to this more mellow album. So if you're into a mellow feel, this album definitely resonates it.

"Bushwick Blues" is probably the most uppity. Has a more recent flavor.

"St. Francis" tells a story and still kinda folky. I found it pleasant to listen to, though. :)

See you next week!
